Effective date: July 19, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Roomie (“we”, “us”) collects when you use the Roomie app, how we use it, and what choices you have. It is part of our Terms of Use.
Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address and a password. Your password is handled by Google Firebase Authentication and is never stored in readable form.
Profile information you choose to share. Your display name, bio, age (optional), profile photo, lifestyle tags, and lifestyle preferences (the sliders such as quiet/social and tidy/relaxed). Your profile is visible to other Roomie users — that is the purpose of the app. Share only what you are comfortable making visible.
Listing information. If you list a room: the room details you enter, the photos you upload, the location pin you place on the map, and the phone number you attach so seekers can call you. Listings, including the phone number and map location, are visible to all users of the app.
Endorsements. Endorsements you write about former roommates, and endorsements others write about you, including the rating and text.
Reports and blocks. If you report a listing or user, we store the report, what it concerns, and your account as the reporter. If you block a user, we store that block so the app can enforce it. Reports are not shown to the person you reported.
Device location. With your permission, the app uses your device’s location to center the map and show rooms near you. Your device location is used on your phone only — we do not save your GPS location to our servers. You can use the app without granting location permission; the map simply won’t center on you.
Technical data. Like most apps, our service providers automatically record basic technical data such as IP address, device type, and timestamps when the app communicates with our servers. We use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) to collect crash and diagnostic data — for example the device model, operating system version, and what the app was doing when a crash occurred — so we can find and fix bugs. We have configured Sentry not to collect personally identifying information.
We do not collect your contacts, your messages, or your precise location history, and the app contains no advertising or advertising trackers.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Other users. Your profile, your listings (including photos, map location, and the phone number on a listing), and endorsements about you are visible to other users of the app.
Service providers. We use Google Firebase (authentication, database, and file storage) to run Roomie, and Google Maps to display the map. We also use Sentry to collect crash reports, as described in “Technical data” above. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy commitments. Firebase servers may be located outside Israel (for example in the United States or Europe), so your information may be stored and processed abroad.
Legal. We may disclose information if required by law, or if we believe in good faith it is necessary to protect the safety of our users or the public, or to defend our legal rights.
We do not share your information with anyone else.
Your information is kept while your account is active.
You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Delete account). If you no longer have the app installed, you can request deletion by email — see our Account Deletion page. Deleting your account removes your profile, your listings and their photos, and your authentication record. Endorsements you wrote for others and reports you submitted may be retained in anonymized or detached form, and we may keep records connected to safety reports or legal obligations for as long as the law requires.
We rely on Google Firebase’s security infrastructure, and access to user data is restricted by security rules. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — please use a strong, unique password.
Under Israel’s Privacy Protection Law, you have the right to review the information we hold about you and to ask that inaccurate information be corrected or deleted. Most of this you can do directly in the app (edit your profile, edit or delete your listings, delete your account). For anything else, contact us at the address below and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Roomie is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using the app, please contact us and we will remove the account.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. The effective date at the top always shows the current version.
